We met Julie at a Foodmobile distribution in Monticello, and learned that she and her mom moved to Cerro Gordo from Colorado. Julie said that she found out about the distribution when she posted in the Facebook town group that she needed help getting a school gym outfit for her daughter because she couldn’t afford to buy one. Someone from the group responded and then reached out to her to tell her about the distribution.

She said that due to health issues, she’s currently not working and the only income her family has is from her mother, which is a fixed income. She said she gets SNAP but “It’s not always enough.”

She talked about how it’s especially difficult to get fruits and vegetables with a fixed income. “It’s the produce and the meats that cost so much.”

“I’m just trying to get back on my feet,” she said.
