Message from Our Executive

Food
for Thought . . .
Dear Neighbors,
Now more than ever Americans are being confronted with the poverty in our midst. We have seen it on a grand scale during disaster recovery, but its presence has, and continues to be a part of daily life for too many.
The reality is that there are thousands of people in East Central Illinois who need our services every day. According to the Census Bureau, 37 million Americans lived in poverty in 2004. Every year the Eastern Illinois Foodbank serves over 267,000 people, including nearly 110,000 children.
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank has been, and continues to be, the recipient of goodwill aimed at alleviating hunger. It is truly inspiring to see the community rally around in support of those who have need, particularly the children and elderly in our region.
The Eastern Illinois Foodbank is grateful for the generosity of the local community, not just in times of disaster, but year round in our efforts to end hunger in our communities.
We need your help now, more than ever. After all, no one should ever be hungry.
Sincerely,
Jim Hires
Executive Director
