Annual
Food Drives
Eastern
Illinois Foodbank participates in two major food drives
conducted through or on behalf of the Foodbank:
Annual
Letter Carriers National "Stamp Out Hunger" Food Drive (Spring)
The
Food Drive is conducted through the leadership and participation
of the National Association of Letter Carriers and the
United States Postal Service, as well as America's Second
Harvest. Known as the largest one-day food drive in the
nation, postal residents are asked through mailed postcards
to leave bags of nonperishable groceries for the mail
carriers to pick up. The drive contents are then transported
to the Foodbank for sorting and distribution.
Food For Families Annual Drive (Fall)
The
Food For Families Annual Drive is conducted through the
generosity and participation of numerous companies and
organizations. The Annual Drive generates gifts of food
and donations of monies to purchase food for hunger relief
in eastern Illinois. A volunteer committee of local citizens
organizes the drive along with the Foodbank, and it is
held over a two-week period the end of October and early
November. Supermarkets and schools collect food and monetary
donations, and numerous companies collect groceries as
well. Local media promote the drive. The drive has a dual
purpose - collection of groceries and receipt of financial
gifts.
