Matching
Gift Programs
Many
companies and businesses choose to "match" the
contributions of their employees to nonprofit organizations,
including Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Such firms have created
a "Matching Gifts Program" and will match the
contribution to an equal dollar amount; some companies actually
will match the gift two or even three times the cash value.
Most
companies with a "Matching Gift Program" have
guidelines and procedures to be followed. And typically
there is a business office or human relations department
that works with employees in preparing the proper forms.
Eligible donors often can include retired employees, spouses,
or widows/widowers of employees - as well as currently employed
personnel.
We
would be pleased to work with you to determine whether your
company has a "Matching Gift Program" and to work
with you to complete the necessary forms and applications.
Start
a Matching Gift Program
As
an employee of a firm without a "Matching Gift Program,"
you might want to see if one could be established as a
way of demonstrating the commitment of that business to
charitable giving. Or, it may be that your company would
consider a "matching" or "challenge"
gift to an employee-led campaign just to generate funds
for the Foodbank and for hunger relief.
Since
a $1 donation to the Foodbank actually generates $10 worth
of food, a gift which doubles the contribution makes that
$1 stretch to $20, or more dollars, of food for hunger
relief.
