Becoming a Member Agency

There are enormous tangible and intangible benefits to becoming a Member Agency of the Eastern Illinois Foodbank. Undoubtedly, becoming a Foodbank member agency enables an organization to more effectively and efficiently support low income children, families and adults through the provision of food and groceries. By working with the Foodbank, a local agency can be far more productive at what it does best - reaching out to provide food to hungry families and individuals.

The benefits of becoming a Member Agency of the Foodbank include:

  • Access to the enormous quantities of the warehouse supply and inventory of foods and essentials provided by the Foodbank;
  • Assurances of nutritionally sound foods and access to varieties of fresh produce and breads daily;
  • Assurances of food safety and proper food inspection of foods and groceries available;
  • Opportunities to order food supplies in advance from the daily product inventory list;
  • Pick up and/or delivery of already sorted and boxed and stacked foods specific to needs;
  • Access to the agency shopping area at the warehouse for acquisition of smaller orders and individual need items; and
  • Technical assistance, advice and support in all aspects of the operations of a food relief program.

There is no membership fee for an agency to become a Member Agency of the Foodbank. The Foodbank does require a "Shared Maintenance Fee" for various products which is essentially a handling fee determined by pounds received and set within the guidelines of America's Second Harvest. The fee varies by product, with some foods such as produce, having a zero fee assessed, and with the average fee being at about 10 cents per pound or 8 cents less than the standard maximum set by America's Second Harvest.

To address the eligibility criteria, contact us directly, and as appropriate, include a letter of interest, as well as a copy of your organization's 501 (c)(3) status and proof of operation.
